The Role and Application Areas of LoRa Communication in Smart Agriculture, A Proposed Architecture, and Its Performance Analysis
Abstract
LoRa communication technology offers promising and innovative solutions in various fields with its features such as wide coverage and low power consumption and open-source protocols. With the development of IoT and communication technologies, it is possible to improve product quantity and quality in sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in agriculture. The new trends have been on problems such as good soil preparation, smart irrigation systems, improved environmental control, smart fertilization, and automatic cropping. In this study, the features, advantages, and limitations of LoRa communication technology and its distinguishing aspects from similar technologies are given. In addition, agricultural application areas, offered solutions and trends are presented systematically. Finally, an exemplary application architecture in smart agriculture was presented and performance analysis was carried out.
